Documented beginnings of viticulture in Krosno Odrzańskie date back to the second half of the twelfth century. According to chroniclers, in 1154 on a so-called "Bishops Hill" the first vines were planted on the initiative of a Wrocław Bishop Walter of Malone. For many centuries Krosno has been known for its wines. Monuments on wine tradition of the city are the permanent exhibition in the basement of the Piast Castle, an exhibition of a Museum Chamber carried out by a regional Art and Culture Centre "Zamek".The exhibits include various kinds of presses, dishes and tools used for wine production. It's also a collection of glass and ceramic bottles. It is well be possible that some of them may have been produced not that far away, in glassworks in Szklarka Radnicka. The view over non-existing vineyards is documented by the postcards from the last century. Next door, in the castle chapel there is a wine bench, where maxims associated with wine drinking and liquor abuse are placed
As the Centre's website informs: "The main objective of Art and Culture Centre "Zamek" is to run multiple activities and developing and meeting cultural needs of the residents and the and promotion of local culture."
